BackBurner Dreams – Becomes A Reality

I premiered BackBurner Dreams on Mother’s Day 2018. The film, my first documentary, features three Black women whom

I challenged to revive the passions and dreams they put on the “back burner” to raise children, work in unfulfilling jobs, and whose dreams seemed beyond their reach. I followed them for nine months, the length of a pregnancy, to bring their waylaid dreams to the fore. Stephanie a single hardworking mom of two children and 30 years old at the time of production, wanted to dance ballet again, she still had a ballerina’s body. Melanee, works in marketing for a Black owned bank, wanted to revive her acting skills. Carla, a mother of three who has suffered from clinical depression since she was a child, wants to compose and perform her own songs.

Each woman, faced with their own unique challenges, accepted my challenge and in the process examined more closely their lives, challenges and accomplishments. The film screened from Brixton, London to Baltimore, Maryland. I also created the Reviving Dreams and Reimagining Community workshop which I presented to women in marginalized communities. Please contact me if you’d like to host a screening.
